Arm types and lengths

Barrier arms are supplied in 3, 4, 6 and 2+2 metre configurations across three arm styles. The right one is decided by your gate width and the clearance above the driveway.

• Straight arm - the standard choice where there is open clearance above and to the side of the gate.
• Telescopic arm - retracts as it raises, for entrances where a full-length arm would not have room to swing up.
• Curved arm - shaped to clear low overhangs, canopies and basement ramp entrances where vertical clearance is limited.
• 2+2 metre configuration - a folding arrangement for wide gates with restricted overhead space.

What the barrier connects to

A barrier on its own is a slower gate. A barrier integrated with the rest of the entrance is a record.

• Access control - card, tag or biometric release, so entry is authorised rather than waved through.
• Number-plate-usable camera - positioned and angled specifically to read plates, which is not the same position as general gate coverage.
• Guard override - a manual control that works instantly, because the failure mode of an automatic gate must never be a queue on a main road.
• Safety loop or sensor - so the arm cannot come down on a vehicle or a person.

What we check during the survey

Gate width, overhead clearance, ramp gradient, the turning path of the largest vehicle that regularly enters, available power at the gate, and whether the guard position can actually see the barrier. Getting the arm type wrong is an expensive mistake to correct after the foundation is set, so this survey is not a formality.
